I have been searching for, and been asked by many, to find a paper written by Nils Barricelli called in 1987 "Suggestions for the starting of numeric evolution processes intended to evolve symbioorganisms capable of developing a language and technology of their own"
This paper has been referenced by George Dyson in his book, "Turing's Cathedral", and others.
The paper concerns digital organisms evolved in a computer past the point of novelty and into something entirely new. I love it. I hope you do as well.
