Resetting Matrox TripleHead2Go

If you have ever had some problems with fitting one resolution to another, matching aspect ratios, or stringing together multiple projectors you may have encountered a dizzying amount of combinations the many buttons on the machines - but which one was pressed for it to go awry?

Recently, my Matrox TripleHead2Go was knocked out of service for a few due to curiosity exploring all of the resolution options. After selecting something under 1280 x 1920 on my 15" MacBook Pro I encountered a flickering purgatory across 2 projectors that lasted until daybreak.

The severe problem was that you could only adjust the resolution in "mirrored" mode, for that was the only mode that a signal was passing through. To change the "non-mirrored" mode's resolution you simply could not becuase the screen signals were incapatitated preventing clicking anything.

The solution was found not in deleting the preferences.plist (as briefly discussed here), nor was it in restoring from a time machine save point, or in resetting all the projectors to factory defaults. The only thing left was to see about restting the Matrox box. I installed the PowerDesk utility provided by Matrox here. After installing this I uploaded the newest firmware provided at the same location. This coupled with clearing to factory defaults before hand resulted in previous pristine working condition.

This may have been an exhaustive approach to restoring working order but it got the job done and I am sure it will wipe any problems from the box. Hope this can help any troubleshooting out there!
